Getting around in Cayman – Rental Services

Cayman – The beach lover's paradise! Its almost a ritual to go there and get lost in the beauty and charm that nature has generously showered upon this set of islands. Once a visitor to Cayman Islands, and you would want to come here again and again. People come, they stay and they move around. And moving around is specifically easy here. Public transport galore, vehicles for rentals are easily available here. There are however, a few thumb-rules, you need to keep in mind while renting in a car for going around the island.

The first thing, you need to get a driving permit from the rental company that you are dealing with. Technically, all rental companies are supposed to to issue permits in change of US$7.5. Permits are valid for an extended period of 6 months. Now, for being eligible for getting a permit, you need to submit your age proof. This differs from one company to another. While one would consider it eligible even at 21 years of age, another would ask you to wait till you were 25. And the last limit till which you can take a car for rent is 75, invariably across all rental companies. Speed limits are strict here and breach-in these limit rules can drop you into severe conditions. So, better, keep to the rules and drive.

Car rental prices are another factor that could really matter to you if you were not aware. Rental prices shoot up severely during the December-April frame. Beyond that, they are sliced off to as low as 35%! So, it is always better to book in a car well in advance if you are planning for a Cayman trip during the merry-making times.

Most rental companies have their kiosks set up at comfortable distances from the airport. However, it is entirely up-to you to chose a car for yourself! You can travel to your hotel in a taxi from the airport and then have a rental car screech in at your place! That is exactly what many tourists conventionally do! So get a car and drive your way through the beautiful Cayman paradise!
